Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy knows just who to look for as the main threats to his team in its National Rugby League round-20 clash against the New Zealand Warriors in Auckland today. Look firstly at the captain Steve Price, add elder statesman Ruben Wiki, and you will have the heart and soul of the Warriors team.
While wary of the pace and size of the Warriors' outside backs and the overall size of their pack, Bellamy said it was no coincidence that the Warriors' form revival they have won their past three games had come about with the reuniting of front-rowers Price and Wiki after Price had an interrupted early season with injury and then being a part of Queensland's successful state-of-origin campaign.
But the Warriors have moved up the table to sit 11th before this round started and, according to Bellamy, now have a look similar to that of last year when they finished the home-and-away season in fourth.
"(Price) is really important to them. He's a great leader and obviously they've got other good players
they're a dangerous team and playing really well," he said. Ironically, Melbourne's arrival in NZ has coincided with a powerful storm that has cut a swathe across North Island and cut power to tens of thousands of homes.
Melbourne completed its final training session yesterday. There were no late changes to the team, although the Storm will be without full-back Billy Slater, suspended after a brawl during the Dragons match. Steve Turner is the most likely candidate with Brett Anderson taking his place on the wing.
