Racing days far from over

FORMER Paralympian Paul Nunnari has refused to allow his failure to be selected for the Australian Paralympian team bound for Beijing to sadden his spirits.

The wheelchair athlete, although disappointed on hearing he would not be taking part in this year's Paralympics, said it was ``not the end of the line''.

He said he thought he had been overlooked because he had not travelled as much this year and had lacked competition.

``Basically there was a lack of spots available with 10 athletes going for the last two places,'' he said.

``I'm fine with the decision. I did everything I could to be selected.''

Next on the agenda for the popular, locally based athlete is a journey to Western Australia.

Nunnari will be striving to win his 10th City to Surf wheelchair race in Perth in August.

``I'm not retiring I haven't based my training on just the Paralympics, although that is a big event,'' he said.

``I'll be going for the New York Marathon in November, next year to Alaska to race throughout the whole state and the London Paralympics in 2012 is an option.''

Nunnari paid tribute to the support from the community and his coach Ben Towers.
