Beach Olympics bid: Camden to host big sports bash

16/07/2008 1:14:00 PM
CAMDEN Beach Sports will launch its first Beach Olympics on August 8 and there could be 10,000 reasons for people to compete.

Organisers Aaron Oswald and Ben Geist said five beach sports and three non-beach sports would be played as part of the competition, which will see up to $10,000 given to the winning team.

The sports will include beach soccer, beach volleyball, beach tennis, beach footy, beach cricket, tennis, lawn bowls and pool.

The new event be at Camden Sports Club to coincide with the Beijing Olympic Games.

``It's going to be a lot of fun and there's a nice cash prize on offer,'' Oswald said.

``It might be better for people to get in early with a team because we plan to have this event every year, so the competition might not be as tough in its first year.

``It's a good opportunity for people to have some fun while there is a bit of a buzz going on during the Olympics.''

The Beach Olympics will be held over three consecutive weekends next month.

Teams must have a minimum of eight people and be available on weekends to play the sports.

People aged 16 and over are invited to enter and entrants aged under 18 must have parental consent.

To enter a team, collect an information pack from Camden Sports Club, or contact 0419404713 or 0404439170.

It costs $100 per person to enter with a $10,000 prize for the winning team.

Other prizes and incentives will also be distributed.
