NARELLAN is the hands-down favourite location for Camden's new police station, according to two prominent businessmen.
Matt Leighton, president of the Narellan Chamber of Commerce, and Arnold Vitocco, part-owner of Narellan Town Centre, agree that the new station should be built in the northern area of Camden.
After reading in the Advertiser that police officials were scouting a site in the area recently, Mr Leighton said: ``I'll believe it when I see it.''
Mr Leighton said the most viable location for a new station was in Narellan.
``This is the epicentre of where the population and business is going to be,'' he said.
Mr Vitocco said the police station should eventually be located in Oran Park because that was going to be the city's centre.
``But that is 20 years away,'' he said.
``For the next 20 years it should be in Narellan.''
It had been suggested that a triangular piece of land, where the new alignment of The Northern Road meets the older section of The Northern Road, would be an appropriate site for a police station.
But Mr Vitocco, who owns it, said his plans did not include a police station at this stage.
``I'm proposing something very different there both retail and bulky goods,'' he said. ``The council sees that site as a very important gateway site to Camden municipality. We're in discussions with the council on the overall masterplan for that site.''
