Meet a link with youth

JODIE Dench has pretty good ears.

Ms Dench, who's the new community project officer for Youth at Camden Council, says she loves listening to young people and finds satisfaction in helping them.

``I love hanging out with young people and knowing that I can make a positive impact,'' she said.

``I can help them apply for courses and they can come and talk to me when they want about anything, and I enjoy that.''

Ms Dench said she developed a passion for working with young people when she was at university and found it easy to relate to them.

She said the biggest future challenge for the young of Camden would be the rise in population.

``There will need to be more services to meet the needs of young people, because there will be an increase of young people, families and new areas growing in the future,'' she said.

The Youth Cafe at Narellan Library is a big success and more than 20 people come in each afternoon.

And Ms Dench has lots of plans.

``I would like to see the promotion of a skate park, more youth forums and just anything that lets young people know they are participating in the community,'' she said.

12:50 PM AEST | When I heard that some obscure woman from Alaska had been selected as the Republican Party's vice-presidential nominee, my first reaction was not to check the cable news channels, or even the internet news sites. No, my first reaction was to go to YouTube.
