Residents in the Narellan area can expect to see low-flying helicopters inspecting power lines over the next two weeks as part of Integral Energy’s annual safety inspection program.
Integral Energy's central region manager Scott Ryan said the aerial surveys focused on minimising risk ahead of the bushfire season.
“Conducting the aerial surveys in May gives Integral Energy time to check that towers, power lines and other equipment are in good working order and complete our maintenance work before the start of the bushfire season on 1 October," he said.
"Apart from checking for defects, our inspections of power lines and customer-owned private lines are also important to check the safe clearance of trees and bushes from power lines.
“By starting now, we have more time to address any vegetation management and other maintenance projects we identify well before the bushfire season arrives."
Mr Ryan said every effort was made to avoid disturbing local livestock during the inspections.
"We urge farmers and other livestock owners wanting information about aerial inspection dates in the Narellan, Picton and Menangle areas to contact Angelo De Santis on 131 081," he said.
"Given our network area extends over 24,500 square kilometres, our aerial inspections are the most effective way of checking the condition of our network in rural and semi-rural areas, and we appreciate everyone’s co-operation," Mr Ryan said.
Weather permitting, Integral Energy expects to complete its aerial inspections in the Narellan, Picton and Menangle areas by Friday 30 May.
