 Too tired to argue

Too tired to argue

FROM recent articles of mine, one may have noticed by new-found efficacy for online communities.

Imagine my excitm3ent when I read in the Advertiser about the Islamic school, for and against, protest groups on Facebook.

Too bad these new voices don't get articulated in policy.

Facebook is a great place for youth to shout out their concerns - a place where all prejudices and freedoms get spilled out onto the surface of screens across the world.

I mean, isn't it the characteristic of the youth to delve into their issues online, get stuck into the big issues of our community?

I hope so, but there's a massive difference between online and reality.

Last night, when I was having dinner with the girls, the subject of the Islamic school came up.

I was again shocked by distinct ignorance and prejudice and people believing the media hype about the evil Muslim community.

This hype is not worth the few words I get to write in this column.

I'm sick of hearing how bad the Islamic community is.

I don't take part in such criticism, therefore I'm over commenting about it.

So the conversation between friends bled further into the distinction we young, fresh minds keep making.

We still draw a line between us and them, so crazy because there is no us and them, really why won't anyone believe me.

So readers I'm tired.

I'm tired of defending, I'm tired of fighting, and I'm so tired I didn't even join the Facebook group that high

lights the beautiful fresh minds of Camden.

I'm too tired and sick of the ignorance to care any more.

This hurts me because I'm just busting with empathy and annoyance.

I just want to show people how wrong they are but that

would be me not being considerate of other opinions.

I can't win.

Maybe the school was rejected for planning reasons.

Tell that to my classmates who looked at me in a very weird way on Wednesday morning.

"How's Camden today?'' a girl asked.

Jasmin Kelaita, 21, a proud ex-Elizabeth Macarthur High girl, is unafraid of expressing her opinion on what matters most to the youth of Camden.
